My cat is ten years old. When he was declawed last year, the vet told me he had periodontal disease (the cause of his bad breath) and needed to have his teeth cleaned. I can’t afford the huge fees for professional teeth cleaning. Does anyone know of a less expensive way?
I’m sorry, but I didn’t post this question to have someone I don’t know rudely criticize my ability to care for my pet. Unless someone has spoken to my vet or to me I don’t think they should make assumptions on whether I deserve to keep my cat. I don’t think it’s necessary to crucify me for seeking out options. People, please. Answer my question (and anyone else’s) if you wish, but keep the manners in check.

My cat has VERY bad smelling breath, and we just took her to the vet and it’s not an infection or anything, but what product do you suggest for fixing her putrid breath? Thanks.

I am looking for any reason except tarter build up as to why my dogs breath stinks so bad…brush them, give tarter treats, vet says tarter and teeth look good. It is not his teeth and his breath is horrific. Please help. Please, Please, Please do not respond with anything about teeth, I am looking for any other reason that people my know of. Thanks.

My toy chihuahua is losing her baby teeth. She keeps yelping in pain because of it. I don’t know what to do to help with the pain. Any ideas?
Thanks everyone I will take her to the vet
My mom says its not from her teeth falling out its from the adult teeth growing in.

I have a fixed male cat who is about 1.5 years old. His breath stinks really bad and I think he may have gingivitis. Is there anything I can do for him at home, or get over the counter, to help him before I go spend oodles of money on a vet?
I feed him dry food. Iams brand for overweight cats.
I know their breath stinks normally but when I said bad breath I mean BAD. The smell kicks me in the face if hes just sitting at my feet.

We adopted him when he was only 9 months old and his gums were very inflamed and bright red. He’s about a year and a half old now and even with changing his diet to a healthy raw diet, his gums are just as inflamed and red. He was a street cat and was quite ill and starving when we adopted him; could that have something to do with it?
Ragdollsnmaines,
He actually does have the Calicivirus. That is what he was ill with when we adopted him. I didn’t realize it effected the gums and teeth, too. Thanks for telling me. We’ll take him to the vet and see if he knows of anything that can ease the inflammation, since there is no real way to get rid of this virus. Poor thing!
JC,
No we haven’t had any dental treatments or rounds of antibiotic for him. When the vet examined him last year, she felt that our cat was way too young to have gum disease and told us it was probably inflammation from teething. However, it has been several months and it hasn’t gone away, so we’re figuring teething irritation should have cleared up long ago. We’ll just have to get him examined again and try to figure out what’s really wrong. Thank you for this information!

I brought him to the vet for teeth cleaning and the vet said he doesn’t have gum disease. I brush his teeth 3 times a week. But why he still have doggie breath.

He is 17 year old with heard disease. My vet can not take a risk of putting him under anesthesia to do a teeth cleaning. Instead, my vet has been giving my dog an antibiotic. However, his teeth ( gum ) is getting worse and now to a point his one side of his cheek is swelled up. How can I treat this perhaps with home remedy safely ?
