Tooth Extraction Archives

My tooth extraction was yesterday at 8:30 AM, I got four of my wisdom teeth removed, and I’m wondering when and if I can chew SNUS which is hardly even chew. Please respond and don’t tell me to quit chewing.

I got a wisdom tooth taken out 7 days ago. A couple hours ago, the extraction site started getting sore. The soreness is gradually getting worse. I’ve been taking care of the site the way the oral surgeon instructed me to. Could this be a possible dry socket?

What happens during wisdom tooth extraction?

Before I get braces next week, I have to get wisdom tooth extraction this Friday. What’s going to happen?

How does anesthetic drugs used by dentists, which block the Na+ channels in neurons prevent a patient from feeling pain during a tooth extraction?

P.S.: Could you give like a chronology of events that are taking place in the channels?
Thanks alot BP-LO.
I also couldn’t find any information relating to the action of mechanism when I googled.

Parts of the stitches already fell out by themselves. It’s been twelve days since the extraction. I don’t think these are "dissolving" stitches, though. The shattered tooth was an upper molar or something (the big old tooth next to last in the row).

I got my wisdom teeth removed almost two weeks ago. My two bottom ones were bony impacted, meaning they were sideways and encased by jaw bone. Apparently the doctor had to cut through the bone to break the tooth and take it out piece by piece. Anyway, the wounds have since healed, but now I am feeling a tightness in my mouth, mostly on the lower part of the inside of my cheek running all the way down to my lower jaw. The site of the wisdom tooth extraction is also still a bit swollen and sore when I press on the outside of my cheek or when my toothbrush accidentally jabs the area. Is this normal for two weeks post-surgery?
Thanks guys! :) I understand how you must feel sick of eating soft foods by now; it made me literally nauseous after a while! Don’t worry, in about a few days or so you’ll be able to eat normal foods again, and it will taste delicious!

0n 5/4/10 i had a tooth extraction and after the surgery the dentist put 3 non dissolvable stitches in my mouth . A week after my surgery i have to go back to get my stitches removed . I have been smoking cigarettes , but I’m scared an infection is going to accure .

I am scheduled to have my upper left wisdom tooth extracted next Monday. I am very nervous. It is not impacted, and I will be keeping my other 3 wisdom teeth. The one getting extracted has decay and is broken. I will be awake for the procedure. (I was given the option of IV sedation but the oral surgeon said he thinks all I need is oral sedation so he gave me a presciption for a sedative called Halcion that I am to take 1 hour before the extraction, and an antibiotic that I will be starting the day of the extraction.) The surgeon warned me that I may feel about 20 pounds of pressure while he is extracting the tooth, which sounds so frightening to me. He also warned me that the tooth will probably break as he pulls it. I am very nervous and don’t know what to expect during & after the procedure, and if I should be worried about any side effects with Halcion. Also I have a very senstive gag reflex and am wondering if I should be worried about that. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I got a wisdom tooth out 2 days ago, it was just with local freezing, nothing major. It didn’t hurt that much the day I got it out. Yesterday, the day after the extraction, it hurt a bit on and off, in the morning and in the evening. Today it actually hurt more, the adjacent tooth throbbing like crazy.

Is this normal?

I got my first molar extracted out, and I’m going to have another molar (on the other side) to be taken out for preparing orthodontic treatment.

How long does it take for a complete recover of a molar tooth extraction?
Should I wait until it become completely recovered before extract another one out?

Thanks all

I had my molar, the one next to my wisdom tooth removed five days ago. It was extracted due to unsubsiding pain after I’ve had taken a lot of different medicines. Before the extraction they had my teeth x-rayed and saw that my wisdom tooth is soon to erupt from the gum but unfortunately it cannot because my molar is blocking it.It was an impacted wisdom tooth(but not in a very bad condition). Now,after my molar was extracted, the gum where my wisdom is,started to swell.I developed a clot but half of it now is gone because the gum was stretched when it swell.I am experiencing pain in the area but not much.It comes & goes just like lightning. Is it normal?Or i may develop dry socket? Please help.. this is really bothering me considering this is my first tooth extraction ever..Thanks a lot!

And what can I do to speed up the process? Is it normal for the cheek to swell after a tooth extraction?

Yea i know , a tons by now about what they told me to do or not to do at the dentist and i did all that , but when can i have a nice refreshing glass of Tea, or Vitamin water or the normal things i like after a tooth extraction today is day 4 afterwards and i have a nice clot in the tooth with no pain? Ive been drinkiing straight water for 4 days lol :)

I had a tooth pulled on the 2nd and everything is fine. And I have a white area that is surronding my tooth extraction site which is normal. I was told that i should not touch this area with my tongue or finger.I was wondering if anyone knew why?

I can barely taste it, and you can’t see anything, but my breath smells bad. I know it’s coming from my wisdom tooth extraction. Anyone know what this could be?

I was given a course of antibiotics before extraction of ma upper tooth but now i believe the tooth next to it is infected & am on antibiotics again, why is this? how does infection generally set in after extraction, i always thought once you complete a course there doesnt be any infection even after extraction, any input plz, thanks.

I am having a decayed tooth removed (#2 – upper right, all the way in the back). I’m having local anesthetic. Provided there is no complications and it’s a simple extraction, how long should I be off work? I sit at a desk all day doing accounting work. My appt is 11:15am and I would like to come back to work the next day. Does this seem reasonable?

I Have just 4 perfectly fine teeth removed too make room as prep for braces. One of them was digged out because get broken during extraction. I have some stitches. I notice that tooth next to it hurts and rocks when touched. Probably it was some pressure applied on it when removing nr 4 on lower left. Is this tooth nr 3 going to be OK in place. What should I do?

I had a very difficult extraction of my lower wisdom tooth by an oral surgeon. The procedure lasted over an hour and consisted of the dentist drilling little pieces of my tooth off to get it out. (the tooth was in down under the skin sideways near my jaw)
My jaw is also so achy and I am still on soft foods (I can’t even eat noodles!). I tried but today I am paying for it. I had the tooth out on Friday and I didn’t go to work today. How long will I be out for? I am 28yrs old..not a teen
I also still have numbess in my chin and lip area because of nerve damage

I am scheduled to have my upper left wisdom tooth extracted tomorrow morning. I am 35 years old, but feel like a baby because I am so EXTREMELY nervous. It is not impacted, and I will be keeping my other 3 wisdom teeth. The one getting extracted has decay and is broken. I will be awake for the procedure. The oral surgeon gave me a presciption for a sedative called Halcion that I am to take 1 hour before the extraction, and an antibiotic that I will be starting the day of the extraction. The surgeon warned me that I may feel about 20 pounds of pressure while he is extracting the tooth, which sounds so frightening to me. He also warned me that the tooth will probably break as he pulls it. I am very nervous and don’t know what to expect during & after the procedure, and if I should be worried about any side effects with Halcion. Also I have a very senstive gag reflex and am worried about that. I am also worried about the crunch noise, and about how they get the tooth out if it breaks.

I had posted an earlier question about numbness after wisdom tooth extraction. I forgot to add the most important detail. It has been 1 month since, and I still have numbness in my lower lip area. It appears I have some nerve damage. The questions are how long should I expect this feeling to last? and Should I contact another dentist or oral surgeon? Is this permanent?

I had my lower right wisdom tooth extracted 3 days ago. The dentist said it was a simple extraction and i should have very little pain, however i have had lots of pain and am now feeling pain in my top teeth. Should i be worried or is this just referred pain?
Thanks, my wisdom tooth wasn’t impacted, in fact the only problem i had with it was i cracked it on an olive pip. I’ve noticed the pain in my top teeth is worst after eating.

If you undergone molar tooth extraction by Dentist, How long can you wait to play tennis match ?

How to stop bleeding from a tooth extraction?

How can I get my gum to quit bleeding after having a tooth extraction?
I am trying the teabag right now. The 2 extractions have been bleeding for 4 or 5 hours. I will let you know how it goes.
Thanks imlym for some reason I never got any instructions on this when I left the office. Of course I was so happy to get out of there, I forgot to ask.

I am having one wisdom tooth pulled sometime in the next couple of weeks. It is an upper tooth. (I am 35 years old.)The tooth is not impacted. It is broken and has decay. I will be awake during the procedure, with just novocaine to numb the area. The oral surgeon and his assistant said I will not feel pain but I will feel up to about 20 pounds of pressure. This sounds extremely scary to me. Also, he gave me a prescription for Halcion, which he wants me to take before the extraction. I am also nervous about that, as I am very senstitive to medication, but he said all it will do is relax me and that it will also relax my jaw which will make it easier and faster for him to extract the tooth. I want it to be as easy and fast as possible so I am planning on taking the Halcion before my appointment. Has anyone had any experience? I am curious about reactions to Halcion and what to expect to feel when I take it, and about the pain and/or pressure I may feel during the extraction. Thanks!
